NOTABLE PLAYER(S)

Dave Kasper: (Class of 1982) A Beadling SC product and All-WPIAL, All-state, and Post-Gazette Elite 11 selection while at Chartiers Valley High School. Kasper has a wide variety of soccer experience as a player, coach, and front office executive. During his playing career, Kasper was a standout forward at the University of Maryland, earning All-ACC honors while also serving as a member of the U-20 U.S. Men’s National Team. He played professionally for the Milwaukee Wave (1989-90) and the Pittsburgh Stingers (1990-94) and transitioned into Duquesne University’s first-ever head coach. Kasper was named general manager of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in 1998 (USL-1). The following year, Kasper led the organization to the playoffs and to Organization of the Year honors. Dave is current General Manager and Vice President of Soccer Operations at Major League Soccer’s D.C. United. During Kasper’s 15-year tenure, D.C. United have won five major trophies: the 2004 MLS Cup, two MLS Supporters' Shields (2006 and 2007) and two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cups (2008 and 2013). Kasper has guided United to nine playoff appearances, including three as the first-place team in the Eastern Conference. United also reached the 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup finals. Kasper also had coaching stints with Sewickley Academy, Beadling SC and ODP Region 1. Dave Kasper has also been named a 2017 inductee of both the Virginia-D.C. Soccer Hall of Fame and the Robert “Tick” Cloherty Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

Travis Mackenzie: current assistant Coach with Chartiers Valley. Played soccer for the Beadling Soccer Club for 8 years and won the State Cup Championship 6 times.   During his high school career, Travis was part of the 2001 WPIAL Championship team.  While at CV he was a 3-time All-State selection, 2-time Regional All-American, and was named to the National All-American team his senior season.  He graduated from Chartiers Valley in 2004. Travis went on to play at Duquesne University.  He was named 3 times to the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team.  He was also named to the Herman Trophy watch list in 2007. He played two seasons professionally for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds where he served as Captain.  He also played 3 seasons professionally for the Milwaukee Wave of the MISL.  While in Milwaukee he won the MISL championship in 2011.

Derek Mackenize: Current assistant Coach Derek MacKenzie graduated from Chartiers Valley in 2000.  During his soccer career at CV Derek was an All-American his senior year, two-time All-State, three-time all-WPIAL and a four-year starter and letterman. Mackenzie signed with the Riverhounds in 2005 -"We've been scouting him since 2003", said Rich Salvini, assistant coach of the Riverhounds. "He's a midfielder who could be a great asset to this team."

Garret Mackenzie: Current Head Coach and Chartiers Valley alumnus Garrett MacKenzie had a successful soccer career at CV. He was named to the All-Section and All-WPIAL teams his junior and senior year.  He and his teammates won the WPIAL championship in 2001, and played in the state championship in 2002.  Coach MacKenzie competed with the Beadling Soccer Club, winning seven State Championships, and winning the Regional Championship in 2000.  He was selected to be a member of the Olympic Development Program team in 2001. After graduating Chartiers Valley in 2002, MacKenzie played soccer at Duquesne University where his team won three regular-season Atlantic 10 Championships.  While at Duquesne, his team was nationally ranked for three of the four years he competed.  He was a member of the Dean’s List, and earned the A-10 commissioner’s Honor Roll, and Director of Athletics Honor Roll. Upon graduating from Duquesne, he became the assistant varsity coach at South Fayette in 2007.  He helped coach South Fayette to a runner up finish in the WPIAL Tournament in 2013 and also led the Junior Varsity Team to three consecutive undefeated seasons. 

Adam Gazda: Named Pittsburgh Post Gazette West Player of the Year as a senior ... finished his career with 60 goals ... named All-Section 5, All WPIAL, All-Region, and All-WPIAL by both the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh Tribune Review ... also a regional All-American and a member of the ODP Region I Team. As a senior… started all 17 games… netted six goals and three assists on the season…led team in goals scored (6) and tied for team lead in points (15)…recorded two goals against Richmond and again against Penn State…recorded two game-winning goals…was named Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region… named First Team All-Patriot League…was named Patriot League Player of the Week October 27…As a junior…missed season with an injury…As a sophomore … started in all 20 games … tallied four goals and three assists … recorded two game-winning goals, one against Columbia (9/8) that was a diving header … scored the game-winner in double overtime at Penn State (10/25) to give the Mountain Hawks their first-ever win over the Nittany Lions … scored the game-tying goal vs. Rhode Island (11/15) in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament that would ultimately force overtime … received an honorable mention in the Patriot League’s weekly awards on October 30 … named First-Team All-League … As a freshman … started all 16 games for Lehigh … scored one goal and handed out one assist … scored first collegiate goal in 6-0 victory over Temple … dished out an assist in 2-0 win over George Washington. During his college years Gazda also played three seasons for Reading Rage in the USL Premier Development League. He was named to the PDL All-League team in 2008. Gazda turned professional in 2010 when he signed to play for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the USL Second Division. He made his professional debut on April 24, 2010 in a game against the Charleston Battery. Assistant coach for the 2016 WPIAL Champion Colts soccer team. 

Joe Puleo: Led the team in scoring in 2006 and 2007, amassing 51 goals and 28 assists in his career … In 2007, was named Section V Player of the Year, All-WPIAL, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Elite 11, Pittsburgh Almanac Elite 11, First Team All-State and NSCAA/adidas East Region All-American … Member of the Pennsylvania West ODP team from 2002-07 … Received High Honors every grading term … A four-year Scholar-Athlete and member of the National Honor Society. Second team All-Patriot League. Listed #67 player on the 2012 MLS Draft foward rankings by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Sean Tinney: (Class of 2017) The Heidelberg product capped off a great prep career by leading Chartiers Valley to the WPIAL AAA championship and a spot in the PIAA quarterfinals after scoring 23 of his 50 career goals as a senior. Tinney earned a vast array of awards over his high school career. He was named to the all-state team twice, the all-section team on three occasions, the WPIAL All-Star team twice as well as receiving NSCAA Regional All-American recognition as a senior. Tinney has committed to play at Slippery Rock University.

Eric Prex: (Class of 1990) An All-Section, All-WPIAL, All-State and Post-Gazette Elite 11 player while at Chartiers Valley. Prex’s scored 36 goals during his senior campaign which was a single-season program record at the time. Attended the University of Pittsburgh where he is tied for the program's all-time leading point scorer. Played professional indoor soccer for Pittsburgh Stingers and Detroit Neon. His coaching experience includes roles with SCS United, Stars United, SVSA and Beadling SC.

Sean Fouts: (Class of 1982) A Heidelberg and Beadling SC product, Fouts was an All-WPIAL and Post-Gazette Elite 11 selection with Chartiers Valley in 1982. In college, Fouts was Co-Team MVP as a freshman at Marshall University, helped lead the university to the program’s first win over West Virginia University and was a First Team All-Southern Conference selection before transferring to the University of Akron to play with a more competitive program. He then played professionally in the American Indoor Soccer Association.

Gene Klein: (Class of 1970) Goalie with Beadling SC and Chartiers Valley HS. Klein played football at the University of Pittsburgh for two-years prior to switching to soccer his junior year. He began coaching as an assistant at Bethel Park before taking the head coaching role at Carnegie Mellon University. He then returned to high school with Quaker Valley High School where he was coach for a total of 29 seasons retiring with 505 career wins, a state record six PIAA titles and seven WPIAL titles. His 1996 QV team was inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame. They were ranked No. 1 in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, which also named Klein national coach of the year. Klein had stints as both the Technical Director and Head Coach of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. He has also served as a member of the Region 1 ODP coaching staff.

Bob Kohlymer:(Class of 1969) Beadling SC Hall of Fame inductee for his excellent play as one of the best marking backs in the Keystone League. Played collegiate soccer at the University of Pittsburgh. Played professionally with fellow Chartiers Valley soccer standouts Denny (brother) and Sam Viecelli.

Denny Kohlmyer: (Class of 1969) Kohlmyer was born in Bridgeville, Pa called “one of Allegheny County’s recruiting Hotbeds” by a 1981 Post-Gazette article about the former standout. Kohlmyer earned All-WPIAL recognition for his play at Chartiers Valley. Kohlmyer played collegiately at the University of Pittsburgh where he was a 4-year letter winner and was All-Pennsylvania-Delaware-New Jersey twice. Denny played professionally in 1975 for the Pittsburgh Miners and is also a member of the Beadling SC Hall of Fame. Denny was a coach at Robert Morris University for four years, with the Professional team The Pittsburgh Stingers for two years and was a high school coach for 20 years. With Beadling SC, Denny has coached 3 Pa West teams to National Championships and is the current club President.  In addition, Denny was the Director of Youth development with the Pittsburgh Spirit from 1981-1986.  He is a USSF ’A’ Licensed Coach and has referred for over 30 years.

Sam Viecelli: (Class of 1969) A Scott Township product and All-WPIAL selection while at Chartiers Valley. Viecelli was a gifted forward with great speed, a tremendous shot, and great work ethic. For his efforts, he was inducted into the Beadling SC Hall of Fame. In college, he played at West Virginia University where he led the team in assists twice and points once. He was West Virginia’s #3 scorer prior to his graduation in 1973. Viecelli then played professionally and was the leading scorer for the American Soccer League’s Pittsburgh Miners in the lone season of the club's existence.
